A statue in honour of AC/DC frontman Bon Scott is unveiled at the Fishing Boat Harbour in Fremantle, Western Australia. Although he was born in Scotland, his family moved Down Under when he was small boy.

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton dominate the US singles charts when ‘Islands In The Stream’ goes to No. 1. Peaking at No. 7 in the UK, it takes pole position in Australia, Austria and Canada. Now stop what you’re doing and luxuriate in its magnificence.

George Michael enters the UK singles chart at No. 2 with ‘Outside’, the lead single from his greatest hits album, ‘Ladies And Gentlemen: The Best Of George Michael’. Peaking at the position in the UK, it tops the charts in Greece, Hungary and Spain.

It’s fifty years to the day that Elvis Presley topped the US charts for the 18th time with the magnificent ‘Suspicious Minds’. It would peak at No. 2 in the UK.

Does bubblegum pop get any sweeter than this? The Archies are at No. 1 in the UK charts with ‘Sugar Sugar’. Remaining there for a total of eight weeks, it becomes the longest running One Hit Wonder to top the UK charts.

Do birthdays get any better than this? Adam And The Ants release their second album, ‘Kings Of The Wild Frontier’, on frontman Adam Ant’s 26th birthday. Hugely successful, the album goes on to become the biggest selling album of 1981 and also wins Best Album at the 1982 Brit Awards.
